During male breast reduction surgery, the Plastic Surgeon makes a small incision around the nipple and then performs liposuction to remove fat and glandular tissue on the chest, sculpting it to appear naturally flat. Scarring around the nipple is minimal & fades significantly over time. The techniques used depend on the diagnosis. If the problem is all fatty excess, then liposuction alone is the solution. If the problem is all glandular excess, then excisions with incisions around the areola is the solution. If the problem is both glandular and fatty excess, then a combination of liposuction and excision is the best choice.

In some cases a negative pressure drain tube is kept under the skin for next 24 hour to remove any excessive collection of fluid or blood. Most of the cases are sent back home the same evening with dressings applied over the chest wall In most patients, stitches are absorbable & do not need to be removed but non absorbable stitches are removed after about 7 to 10 days and a pressure supportive band or elasticized vest like garment is worn for next 4 to 6 weeks to ensure proper healing.

After Male Breast reduction

Following male breast reduction, patients should expect some bruising and swelling. To ensure proper healing and a smooth result, an elastic compression garment is worn. It may take a few months for the results to be appreciated. Once full recovery has taken place, the chest will be firmer and appear more masculine.
